Standards have gone down at Brittany Ferries

This reader is disappointed with the lack of effort from the company

'The company has given up any claim to providing a premium travel experience'

To the Editor,

We have travelled on Brittany Ferries for the past 25 years and have noticed a progressive deterioration in quality.

In the past, we enjoyed setting off from Portsmouth on the Saint-Malo route. A table by the window in the restaurant provided a view as we departed and the food was of a high standard.

Sadly, no longer. On our last trip we sent back five main courses that were overcooked and virtually inedible.

The choice of wine is now limited to four or five and prices are much higher.

I will refrain from commenting on the new 'super luxury' upper deck 'restaurant' (more a snack bar) as it would be extremely impolite.

In fairness, the cabins on the new ships are much improved and the lack of vibration from the engines is very welcome.

However, the interior design in the restaurants and other public areas is very poor, with money wasted on pointless frippery at the expense of better layout and convenience.

I write to BF regularly about our experience. I always receive a reply, but am unconvinced my comments will result in any change.

Clearly the company has given up any claim to providing a premium travel experience in favour of pandering to 'eco-woke' trendiness.

As A.S mentions, they have a near monopoly of the mid-Channel routes so will no doubt survive.
