Can you help? Mairie in Normandy is looking for missing British couple

Owners of French property have not been seen for a decade

Vegetation has grown so much that the access road to the house is no longer usable

To the Editor,

We are asking Connexion readers for help looking for two English people who own a house in the commune of Cuves, in Manche.

They are Mr Leslie Charles Bates, born on June 12, 1950, in Carlisle, and Mrs Clubb, also known as Olive Bates, born on March 27, 1953, in Dover.

The address we have for them is St Margaret’s-at-Cliffe in Dover, Kent.

They renovated the house but have not been back for about 10 years. No one is maintaining it. The vegetation has grown so much that the access road to the house is no longer usable.

We have tried to contact them, but without success. They apparently had children in Vassy and/or Truttemer-le-Grand (Calvados), but the mairies have no record of them. We do not know if they are still alive.

Estelle Ganné, secretary, mairie de Cuves
