To the Editor,
Jordan Bardella is totally unqualified to be the head of state of one of the leading global economies.
For a start, EU prosecutors have launched a probe into a possible misappropriation of EU funds by Rassemblement National to train its members, including Mr Bardella, to address the media during the 2022 French presidential election campaign.
It was a similar type of scandal that saw Marine Le Pen convicted of embezzling European Parliament funds in March 2025, a ruling that currently excludes her from the 2027 presidential race. The party has always been – and is still – corrupt to the core.
Mr Bardella, personally, has no political convictions and no policies that were not inherited from his mentor.
A biographer called him “a chameleon” and “a chronic opportunist”, adding: “There is no ideology there. He’s pure strategy. He senses where the wind is blowing and gets in there early.”
Add to this the fact that he has never had any political experience other than that handed to him by Marine Le Pen.
He has never had a real job, and has never been elected other than to Brussels (which the far right has always detested but never hesitated to profit from financially, thus cementing their reputation for hypocrisy).
After 10 years of the arrogance, ineffectiveness and incompetence of another upstart, Emmanuel Macron (who at least had some experience in business and government), why would anyone in their right mind consider entrusting the governance of this country to a vacuous, venal, preening novice?
As for the far right, have we learned nothing from the massive financial and intellectual corruption that defines them, from Donald Trump to Viktor Orbán, to name but a few?
The eternal gullibility of the uneducated and/or uninformed voter never ceases to amaze, disappoint and disgust me. Democracies are gained with blood, sweat and tears.
They can be badly damaged – and even severely crippled – by casting a thoughtless, irresponsible vote. Again, one needs to look no further than Trump.
