To the Editor,
I agree that wood pellet stoves are far more expensive than they first appear.
We purchased a pellet stove from a local supplier in 2021, but the installation quality was very poor.
A French friend later pointed out that I should have sought local recommendations beforehand, underlining the importance of integrating and relying on trusted local advice.
Contact with the manufacturer, Palazzetti, was not helpful, appearing more focused on protecting its reseller network. Other local suppliers were unwilling to provide maintenance or support.
We continue to face maintenance issues. With an engineering background, I am able to manage some repairs myself, but in France official servicing is required for legal and insurance purposes.
Palazzetti restricts spare parts sales to its reseller network, citing safety, though this also serves to protect its distribution system.
I have since found an online supplier for parts, along with guidance for handling service warnings.
Pellet stoves are complex appliances and can be costly to maintain.
Recent repairs have included replacing a main exhaust fan and ordering a new thermostat, the latter damaged during installation.
These costs are not unreasonable given the technology involved, and such systems offer environmental benefits.
However, the lack of transparency and the protectionist practices within the sector remain difficult to accept.
