France sees early-season heat: how long will it last?

Temperatures are set to reach up to 35C

Warm weather has arrived in France. Further rises in temperatures are expected in the coming days, with some areas reaching as high as 35C.

Temperatures are expected to rise by 10C to 15C over the next few days, bringing early summer-like conditions across the country.

Most regions are set to experience maximum temperatures of around 30C, with the south-west reaching up to 35C.

Météo-France are predicting that temperatures will remain stable at least until next Thursday, and probably into the following week as well, according to the 15-day outlook.

The increase is being driven by a high-pressure system, referred to as a ‘heat dome’, which traps hot air over the country and prevents cooler air masses from moving in.

The peak of this hot spell is expected around Tuesday or Wednesday next week, before some gradual easing. However this is likely to be limited, mainly in northern France, with temperatures still remaining above seasonal averages.

Based on current forecasts, there are no signs of unstable weather or stormy conditions developing any time soon.
