Michel Barnier was too arrogant like all at EU
EU chief scuppered last chance for UK to remain in bloc
To the Editor,
I read with interest the recent Connexion article on Michel Barnier and, while he does mention in passing "Brussels bureaucrats who were arrogant and thought they were always right," he does not admit to his own brutal arrogance when conducting negotiations with the UK.
If, during that last visit to him by David Cameron, he had conceded something instead of sending him home with a slapped wrist like a naughty schoolboy, then even at that late date the outcome might have been different.
As it was, the UK population including me were further convinced of the intolerable arrogance and intractability of the EU [Editor's note, leading to the UK's vote to leave the EU in June 2016].
For all Mr Barnier's pontificating without needing reform it seems likely to finally collapse under the weight of its own regulations.
If - when - it does reform and become an open, honest, democratic and accountable organisation I would be happy for the UK to reapply and join.
