Letters: Bin collection fees have soared in France - for fewer pick-ups

Readers say the fees mean putting the rubbish out only once every six weeks

Bin collection fees are increasingly widespread in France

To the Editor,

I was interested to read the article about waste collection charges.

Here in the Béarn, we have just had an increase of 34% in our collection charges, but the number of collections per year included in the base price remains at nine. That is once every six weeks!

Additional collections for a standard household bin have gone up to an eye-watering €5.80.

To the Editor,

Regarding your recent article about penalties for too much waste (i.e. more than 18 collections), it may interest you to know that in Maine-et-Loire we are already penalised for any collection over 12.
