Services to Spain and Switzerland will also begin in October

The new route doubles the number of UK destinations from the Brittany airport offered by the carrier

Low-cost carrier easyJet is expanding its presence in Brittany with three new flights from Rennes airport, including one to the UK.

A twice-weekly service between Rennes and Manchester began on July 2 and will run throughout the summer season until mid-October.

The route flies on Wednesdays and Sundays, with tickets starting from €43 one-way on the easyJet website.

It is the airline’s second UK destination from Rennes airport, following a service to London Gatwick.

Alongside this new UK route, services to Barcelona and Geneva – also running twice per week – will begin in October and cover the winter period.

The expansion in Rennes is part of the airline’s wider plans to increase the number of flights across both the summer and winter seasons from France.

Despite this focus on Rennes, the airport is not one of the carrier’s six French bases.

The airline previously had a seventh base in Toulouse, but this was closed earlier in the year.

Rennes is not the busiest airport in north-west France (that is Nantes). However, the airport has recently expanded its infrastructure to prepare for new border security measures.

This includes a 300m² building that will be used to process passengers subject to new Entry/Exit System (EES) requirements, including UK citizens who do not already have a valid visa to enter or live in France.
