The north is forecast to enjoy the warmest of the spring weather

Widespread sunshine is forecast on Sunday for the north of France

Friday, April 25

Friday will be largely dry and sunny across much of France.

Sunshine will be especially widespread from southern Aquitaine through to the southern Alps, with only light cloud cover in most other regions.

Corsica may see some isolated showers. Any lingering cloud and showers will be mostly confined to the far north-east.

Weather alerts continue in the south-west due to the continued risk of flooding.

The department of Gironde has been placed on high (orange) alert by state weather service Météo France, while Dordogne, Charente and Charente-Maritime remain on (yellow) alert.

Saturday, April 26

The weather will become more unsettled on Saturday as a new Atlantic disturbance moves in.

The country will be largely split down the middle, with periods of rain and showers west of a line from Caen to Montpellier.

Areas to the east - including the Paris Basin, the Rhône Valley, and the Alps - should remain dry with a mix of sun and cloud.

Morning temperatures will range from 10-15C in the cloudier west and south-west to 5-10C in the cooler north-east.

In the afternoon, these will reach 14-16C in the west but rise to 18-21C in the east and south-east.

Highs of 21C in Rouen, Seine-Maritime.

Sunday, April 27

Conditions will improve in the north, where widespread sunshine is expected.

In contrast, the southern half of the country will see variable cloud and showers, particularly in the south-east where storms may develop, including around the Alps, Paca region and Corsica. Some of these may be strong locally.

In the north, temperatures will rise to between 20-23C, except along the Channel coast.

In the south, they will remain steady or dip slightly due to cloud cover, with 16-18C expected in areas such as Montpellier and Nice.

Highs of 22C in Rouen and Paris.

Looking ahead: warmer weather expected

From Monday, warmer air is forecast to move up from the south as a low-pressure system settles west of France.

This will bring more sunshine and a noticeable rise in temperatures.

Highs of 25C or more are possible across much of the northern half of the country by Tuesday, particularly in areas such as the Paris region and the Loire Valley.

While most of the country will enjoy spring-like conditions next week, a few areas - notably the Pyrenees and Mediterranean coast - may continue to see showers or storms due to lingering instability.
