French weekend weather forecast September 26-28: cold mornings, clear skies and a warmer Sunday

Increasingly settled weather is to reach most areas over the weekend

High pressure will settle in by Sunday afternoon bringing sunshine and a marked rise in temperatures

France faces a mixed but improving outlook this weekend, with chilly mornings, fleeting showers and increasingly settled weather before milder conditions return on Sunday.

Friday 26 September

The end of the week will remain seasonally cool, with early morning lows of 4C to 9C inland and down to 3C in some areas, according to state forcaster Météo-France.

Temperatures along the coast are forecast to reach 10C - 13C in the north and west, up to 14C along the Mediterranean, with Corsica remaining milder at 15C - 17C.

The skies will be split between clearer weather in the west and thicker cloud in the east, with showers stretching from Auvergne to the north-east during the morning before shifting towards the Alps and Alsace later in the day.

Snow is expected above 2,000m in the Alpine ranges. The south-east will be partly veiled with occasional showers, while strong westerly winds will affect Corsica.

Afternoon highs will remain limited to 13C - 18C across most of the country, except in Aquitaine and along the Mediterranean coast where temperatures will pass 20C.

Saturday 27 September

A cold start is forecast, with lows of 4C - 8C inland and 9C - 13C on the northern and western coasts, and 14C along the Mediterranean.

Corsica will again be warmer, holding around 14C - 15C. Pockets of fog are likely in Centre-Val de Loire and Pays de la Loire.

Elsewhere, skies will be variable with lingering showers in the north-east and Corsica.

In the afternoon, a weak front will advance from the Atlantic, bringing light rain to Brittany. Most of the country will alternate between cloud and sunshine under slightly milder temperatures.

Maximum highs are expected to reach 15C - 19C in the northern two-thirds of the country, above 20C in the south, and reaching 24C - 25C in the Basque Country and Béarn.

Sunday 28 September

The front that entered Brittany will move slowly east into Pays de la Loire and Normandy, with only light rainfall.

Ahead of it, high pressure will settle in, allowing sunshine and a marked rise in temperatures to reach many areas by Sunday afternoon.

Minimums will remain low in many eastern regions, between 3C and 8C, with 8C - 10C in the west and up to 13C - 14C along the south-western coast.

The afternoon will be noticeably warmer: 17C - 20C in the north, 18C - 22C in the south, and up to 24C along the Mediterranean.
