A major recall of Morbier and other raw milk cheese is underway in France after fears of E.coli contamination.

The Morbier cheeses were sold at Intermarché, Franprix, Monoprix, Netto, and E.Leclerc supermarkets across France.

In addition, several raw cheeses from producer Jean Perrin, including Morbier, Raclette, and Tomme styles have also been recalled due to E.coli concerns.

It follows a similar major recall in January 2025, also of Jean Perrin and Morbier cheeses over E.coli fears.

Products can be returned to the place of purchase for a refund. Exact deadlines differ between supermarkets but they generally fall from the beginning of March.

If any cheese cannot be returned it should be destroyed and not consumed.

Helplines are also available through some retailers for those affected.

Further information can be found on the links above.

Independent cheesemongers affected

The Jean Perrin cheeses were mostly sold to independent cheesemongers between mid-November, 2024 and February 19, 2025.

However, some were also sold in supermarkets including Auchan, Casino, Monoprix and Netto.

A full list can be found on the RappelConso product recall website. Recalls began on February 19, meaning you may have to go back multiple pages to find all cheeses affected.

More recalls took place today (February 21), meaning further recalls may be announced following the publication of this article.

By clicking on a certain product from Jean Perrin on the recall list, you will find a corresponding PDF article showing the stores in which the product was on sale.

Those affected can receive reimbursement, and there is a helpline available at +33 (0)3 81 62 06 29

E.Coli concerns

The cheeses have been recalled due to the potential presence of Toxigenic Escherichia coli shiga, commonly known as E.coli.

RappelConso states that eating food contaminated with E.coli “can cause diarrhoea, sometimes bloody, abdominal pain and vomiting, with or without fever, within a week of consumption.”

In some cases it can cause severe kidney damage, particularly for children.

Anyone who has eaten one of the recalled products and has any of the symptoms above should immediately contact a doctor.

If you do not have any of these symptoms within 15 days of consuming a product infected with the bacteria, you will not need to consult a doctor.
