Conditions should improve from Thursday, May 7, after a generally unsettled start to the week, before becoming more changeable again over the weekend.
On Thursday, the unsettled weather moves east towards Germany, resulting in a brighter and drier day for most areas.
The weather will stay cool in the north, with highs of around 18C in Lille and 19C in Paris, while reaching around 21C in Lyon and 20C in Bordeaux. However, clouds and some showers will still affect several regions in the morning, especially in the north-east. In the afternoon, showers will develop in places including northern France, Brittany and mountain areas.
Friday, May 8, is set to be warmer, with highs generally in the low to mid-20s, reaching around 22C in Paris, 24C in Lyon, and up to 25C in the south-west. Sunshine develops across a broad central area of the country, but instability returns in the east during the afternoon, followed by thunderstorms moving in from the west later in the day.
The warm weather is set to continue on Saturday, with temperatures generally in the low to mid-20s, with Paris and Lyon set to see highs of 24C and 25C respectively. Further showers and thunderstorms are expected, mainly in Brittany and eastern border regions, while other areas stay brighter.
On Sunday, similar temperatures continue, but stormy conditions are expected to spread across much of the country, with a possible drop later in the day.
By Monday, it turns slightly cooler in the north, while the south remains milder. Showers remain possible in many areas.
Heavy traffic is also expected on Thursday as many people travel for the long weekend, with warnings in place across much of France.
