Corrections to this spring’s income tax declaration will be more difficult to complete after Thursday (June 25) as the tax calendar enters its next phase.
While the last deadline for completing the declaration online passed on June 4, the online portal – available through an individual’s personal login to the French tax website – has remained open.
This allows anyone to edit their 2026 declaration (for 2025’s income) and make corrections in case of a mistake or omission, using the ‘Accédez à la correction en ligne’ button.
If the original submission was made before the relevant deadline (based on the location of the declarant’s main residence), there are no penalties for using the tool to alter the declaration.
However, this is only the case if changes made are not deemed ‘significant’ by the authorities and are only minor alterations.
If changes are seen to be major, penalties may be issued.
Those who did not complete their declaration within time but filed later using the online service face penalties including a higher final tax bill.
Note that certain elements cannot be altered, including civil information and address as of January 1, 2026.
Those who filed paper declarations cannot use the online correction tool at all, and must wait to file a reclamation.
Correction tool re-opens in August
The online service is no longer available after midnight on June 25 however, with declarants having to wait to make further corrections until their official avis (tax notice) for the year is issued at the end of July (paper declarants may not receive theirs until August).
Following this, a new online service to alter declarations becomes available between August - November, with exact dates to be confirmed.
This allows for certain information to be altered, and will affect the rate of withholding tax levied on income.
As a reminder, those who are to receive a refund after paying too much tax should see this arrive by the end of July, and those with additional tax to pay must do so before September 25.
If the tax owed is more than €300, it is split into four equal payments between September - December.
